Graham
County has two grocery stores - one in Morland and one in Hill
City. The Morland grocery is the drop site for groceries that
are trucked to other area locations in order that Morland and
other area grocery stores may stay open.
Hill City has one of the
few new car and truck dealerships left in small towns. Money
Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and also handles large
trucks. Many people across the US have purchased trucks from
Money's. Money's opened their business in 1956 by purchasing a
dealership. They have been selling trucks for 25 years.
Mr.
Money reports that he stays in Hill City because he has a son
and grandchildren here and he is established in the area. There
are good schools, excellent medical care, we have good
info-structure, and a safe living environment.
Mr. Money also states that we have some
of the best hunting and fishing sites and facilities in the
state.
The County has a Hydroponics Greenhouse in Bogue (Hydro-Tec)
which is noted for their tomatoes, herbs, and garden greenhouse
outside Morland (Lesters), and a tree, shrub and flower
greenhouse in Hill City (Hill City Garden and Greenhouse).
Three
flower shops and/or greenhouses are located in the city of Hill
City. There are three decorator/crafts stores.
The Hardware and Rental Place was
recently renovated and enlarged.
Two discount stores are located on
north Main.
We have a drug store, clothing -
jewelry combo store, lumber yard, grocery store, used car
dealers, various oil industry businesses,
Mr.
Boss, a Kansas artist, Hill City, has been professionally
creating aviation, space, motorcycle, and railroad history
paintings for over 20 years. Boss attended Southern Illinois
University and Kansas State University, but attributes most of
his art training to the tutelage of renowned commercial
illustrator, the late Jack Lynnwood.
Paintings by Mike Boss hang in private,
corporate, and public collections,
including
the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, in Tucson, Arizona; the
Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C.; and the
Union Pacific Railroad, Omaha, Nebraska. His art has been
featured on book covers and in newspaper and magazine articles.
Besides Money Chevrolet, Mr. Money also
has a unique museum featuring high quality, auto memorabilia and
signs. Mr. Money has the first car they sold from their
dealership and other vintage cars.
These cars are in their original condition and not restored
versions. Mr. Money stated that when their last child left home
they needed a "project" to fill their time so decided to utilize
an empty building and showcase the cars and signs they had
collected over the years.
The museum is open to the public by
appointment by calling Mr. Money at 785-421-2112.
